According to Gösta Lindhagen, leader of one of the member institutions of ICTCT three aspects have great importance for the work of ICTCT. First, a theoretical framework for traffic safety evaluation. Second, empirical work based on the developed theories. Third, interdisciplinary cooperation concerning theoretical as well as practical activities which is a very actual request to scientific work especially as far as applied research is concerned. After all, what is planned and built by engineers has to be evaluated with help of social-scientific know how, e.g. the impact of new constructions and new technologies on life quality, including traffic safety. As the papers in this proceedings show, theoretical framework has been developed with considerable progress and the practitioners rely on this work.
