Denna rapport ingår som en del i ett större projekt ’Transport av farligt gods”. Projektet är initierat av Räddningsverket och Statens Järnvägar, och rapporten avser analys av risker vid transporter med farligt gods på väg. Totala körsträckan med farligt gods var 1990 drygt 70 miljoner fordonskilometer, vilket motsvarar 1 750 varv runt jorden. Av totala trafikarbetet med tunga fordon, tunga lastbilar med och utan släp, utgör transporter med farligt gods ungefär 2,5 %. Totala trafikarbetet i Sverige med motorfordon är av storleksordningen 60 till 70 miljarder fordonskilometer årligen, vilket innebär att transporter med farligt gods utgör ungefär 1 %o av vägtrafiken. Tyvärr finns ingen enhetlig statistik som redovisar förekomsten av trafikolyckor med fordon avsedda för eller med farligt gods. Genom bearbetningar av olika statistikkällor, den officiella trafikolycksstatistiken, polisrapporterade trafikolyckor på det statliga vägnätet, insatsstatistik från Räddningsverket m m samt observationsstudier1 av förekomsten av fordon med farligt gods i trafiken, har antalet trafikolyckor med farligt gods skattats. Jämförelser har också gjorts när det gäller viss erfarenhet från andra länder.

This report forms part of a larger project ’Transportation of hazardous materials”. The project has been initiated by the Swedish Rescue Services Board and the Swedish State Railways, and the report refers to an analysis of the risks in road transportation of hazardous materials. In 1990, the total mileage with hazardous materials was slightly more than 70 million vehicle-kilometres, i.e. a distance of 1,780 laps round the world. Transportation of hazardous materials amounts to approximately 2.5 % of the total mileage by heavy vehicles, i.e. heavy trucks with and without trailer. In Sweden, the total mileage of motor vehicles is 60-70,000 million vehiclekilometres a year, which means that transportation of hazardous materials amounts to approximately 1 %o of the road traffic. Unfortunately, there are no homogeneous statistics reporting the occurrence of traffic accidents where vehicles designed for or carrying hazardous materials have been involved. From different sources of statistics, the official statistics on road accidents and road accidents reported to the police on the public road network, performance statistics from the Rescue Services Board etc and observational studies of the occurrence of vehicles carrying hazardous materials in traffic, an estimate has been made of the number of traffic accidents with hazardous materials. Experience from other countries has also been compared.
