By: Contributor(s): Series: Rapport ; 142Publication details: Köpenhamn Vejdirektoratet, 1998Description: 106 s, 345+190+190 KBSubject(s): Bibl.nr: VTI P0450:142Location: Abstract: The results of this survey show that it is necessary to extend our body of knowledge on: - plants'suitability in combination with various salt applications (various traffic conditions); - the influence of road-profile on salt damage,e.g.surface runoff and distance to lanting. - the efficiency of current salt-protection methods under different traffic conditions; - methods of reconditioning salt damage on plants and soil; - the value of alternatives to road salt,in part as methods of combating slippery roads in winter and,in part, for the sake of plants and the environment in general. - the short-and long-term effects of road salt on trees and shrubs growing along streets and roads and on urban growing conditions (along streets and roads,as well as in the urban environment); - a programme for monitoring trees in urban areas and trees planted along streets and roads,so that we can observe the long-term effects of damage caused by road salt. Such a monitoring programme would facilitate systematisation of the overall pictu- re of damage, which would also make it possible to target preventive measures more accurately.
