Avfallsdeponering - trender, strategier och hållbar utveckling. Slutrapport Bendz, David et al

By: Bendz, DavidPublication details: Stockholm Naturvårdsverket, 1999; AFR-report 260, Description: 294 KBISBN: 9162062328Subject(s): Sweden | Waste product | | Online resources: Publikation/Publication Abstract: Landfilling and incineration, with subsequent landfilling of the incineration products, are the main methods for municipal solid waste (MSW) management. Today the proportions of MSW which are landfilled and incinerated vary greatly between industrialized countries. In Australia, USA, UK, Finland and the Mediterranean countries over 90 % of the amount of MSW that remains after recovering and recycling, is landfilled, whereas, in Japan, Switzerland and Denmark over 75% is incinerated. Regardless of what waste management strategy that is emphasized, the importance of minimizing the amount of waste that arises is undisputed. In most developed countries an incentive for waste minimization has been created by introducing subsidies or taxes. The choice of landfill strategy mainly reflects the political reality and the prevailing view on the role that landfills is expected to play.
