By: Publication details: Linköping Linköpings universitet, 2001; Ekonomiska institutionen, ; Nationalekonomi 2001/10, Description: 84 sSubject(s): Online resources: Abstract: The World Trade Organization was founded in 1994 and the main goal is an increased free trade. The organization has met hard criticism and the resistance against free trade has increased. A common opinion in the debate is the one concerning developing countries and their role in the organization. Among the developing countries there are 48 developing countries which are classified as the Least Developed Countries in the world, and trade from these countries contribute to a small part of the total world trade. During the last years there has been a reduction in trade from the LDCs and one explanation might be the WTO and free trade. The purpose of this thesis is to present the debate around advantages and disadvantages from free trade to LDC and to examine if LDC could profit from an increased free trade.
