One of the four seminars at the 75th jubilee of the Danish Road Institute addresses the work of the Institute within the field of “Knowledge on local roads”. The Danish Road Institute has for many years worked with local roads and was among the first in Denmark to introduce management systems for municipalities. To-day the use of management systems and systematic road maintenance has advanced further by introducing new alternative forms of contracts such as performance contracts and road partnering. Irrespective of the type of contract, it is still necessary to have knowledge of road networks condition and changes in the contract period. The articles in the report describe the use of alternative contract forms and the collection and use of condition data on local roads.
