Publication details: Linköping Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut, 2001; Reinforcement of Flexible Road Structures, ; with Steel Fabrics to Prolong Service Life, ; REFLEX report T6:02, Description: 39 sSubject(s): Online resources: Abstract: This report is the second technical report of Task 6 "Construction of Test Roads" in the EU REFLEX project. REFLEX is the acronym for "Reinforcement of Flexible Road Structures with Steel Fabrics to Prolong Service Life". The main objective of REFLEX is to develop a new technology for road construction and rehabilitation. The idea is to use steel fabric reinforcement in asphalt roads in order to make road structures more cost effective by improving the lifetime of new constructed roads and by developing an optimal rehabilitation method for existing roads. Objectives of Task 6, " Construction of Test Roads" is to verify the behaviour of reinforced roads during actual traffic conditions. This first report covers the planning, design and construction of full-scale test roads investigated within Task 6. This report covers the performance of test roads as well as design and constructions of new test roads. Two test roads were built in Sweden and one in Italy in 1999. A third test road, which is instrumented, was also built in Sweden at E6-Ljungskile during the year 2000. According to the plans a test road will also be constructed in Germany during the year 2001.This report is the second technical report of Task 6 "Construction of Test Roads" in the EU REFLEX project.
