The project has been funded by the European Commission, DG TREN. The objective of these tasks is: 1. To consolidate the results of European studies on intermodal transport, in relation to supply chain management, presenting an overview of the market, infrastructure, technology, relevant policies, etc. Underlying objective is to provide information allowing for intercontinental comparison of the "state of affairs concerning intermodal transport"; 2. To give policy recommendations to stimulate intermodal transport in Europe. To reach these objectives, the following issues were addressed: - Intermodal transport: a narrow and a broad definition, - Transport flows and modal split in Europe: EU and CEEC developments, - Intermodal transport in Europe: developments in intermodal transport including rail, inland shipping and short sea shipping, - Why and how do governments influence the competitiveness of intermodal transport?, - Obstacles for further growth of intermodal transport: a supply side and a demand side perspective, - Trends in supply chain management: opportunities and threats for intermodal transport, - Prospects for intermodal transport: different development lines for different goods flows, - The future role of governments in intermodal transport: some key questions to be resolved.Current library | Call number | Status | Date due | Barcode | |
