Subject(s): Online resources: Notes: Road Safety Research, Policing and Education Conference Proceedings, 2002, Sydney Abstract: This paper presents a review and discussion of available research on the effectiveness of driver training, considering previous research findings that driver training and education contribute little to subsequent safe performance of the novice driver. The paper examines issues identified in research on young novice driver safety. The paper concludes that there is research support for some form of post-licence education, particularly with respect to cognitive and attitudinal/motivational matters. The paper is intended to open the way for reconsideration of the issues and, if indicated, further research.
