Transport demand of modes not covered in international transport statistics. Annex 5 : ECF report on cycling Schollaert, Ulric et al

By: Publication details: uo UITP. European Cyclists' Federation, ECF, 1997Description: 50 sSubject(s): Bibl.nr: VTI 2004.0822 Location: Abstract: The brief for this study was to gather information on cycle use in terms of mileage done by bicycle for the years 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1994 and 1995 in the 15 member states. Where direct information does not exist, some method was to be devised to broadly assess mileage done by bicycle. Simple estimates were sufficient. The method suggested for these simple estimates was based on data from local or regional travel surveys and on bicycle consumption or bicycle stocks. In addition, we were to provide information about statistical sources (quality, methodology, definitions) and about methods used to produce estimates. Figures could be rounded to 10 million passenger-kilometres (N.B.: passenger-kilometres are referred to as person-kilometres in the case of the bicycle, powered two-wheelers and walking). Modes covering less than 0,1% of the transport market in a country did not have to be considered if national statistical information was not available.
