These tests show that the ASI-method is difficult to apply for the type of terminal. The sloped down terminal results in an increased risk for a secondary impact. Sloped down terminals are recommended only for installations where speed limit is 70 km/h or below. The area close to the road must be kept free from obstacles. Sloped down terminal installed in a ditch was also tested. In one of the tests the vehicle is close to a rollover. But the tests show also potential for protecting the vehicle from getting behind the guardrail. Ditches with V-shaped and U-shaped bottoms were tested. The V-shape catches the vehicle more effective than the U-shape, but the U-shape seems to result in lower forces on the vehicle.Crash tests on sloped down guardrail terminals were performed.
