By: Contributor(s): Series: ; 2038Publication details: Transportation research record, 2007Description: s. 16-22Subject(s): Bibl.nr: VTI P8167:2038Location: Abstract: This research was undertaken to assess contemporary trends in driver infractions of traffic rules and regulations, in general, and the influence of driver use of mobile telephones (cell phones) while in motion, in particular. Findings have substantiated the general belief that infractions of traffic rules and regulations are on the rise, that many go undetected and unreported, that young drivers violate traffic rules and regulations more than their older counterparts, and that generally users of mobiles while in motion violated other traffic rules and regulations more frequently than their counterparts who did not use mobiles while driving. Comprehensive, continuous, and coordinated driver training, safety awareness, and education along with strict enforcement are essential to curb the rising trends in accidents and infractions of traffic rules and regulations.
