The selection of vehicle type for testing was based on sales figures, where the most common vehicle type was chosen. The vehicle type chosen was a -covered truck- with a gross vehicle weight of 20 tonnes. The model year was 2003 and the emission standard Euro 3. Three vehicles from two manufacturer (denoted A and B) each were tested. The vehicles from manufacturer A were tested both on chassis dynamometer as well as on road, while the vehicles from manufacturer B were tested on the road. The chassis dynamometer tests were carried out in accordance with the ESC (European Stationary Cycle) and the Fige (chassis dynamometer version of ETC-European Transient Cycle). The on-road testing and calculation has been performed in accordance with the PEMS protocol which include urban, suburban, and highway driving.
