In order to reduce the number of road accidents and the wounded road users all possible strategies are involved. Education is not an exception. However, till the year 2007 the road safety education in the Lithuanian schools has been provided without any programme. The new road safety programme for comprehensive school (1-8 grades) was developed in the years 2005-2006. Theoretical grounding, structure and the content of the programme are presented in this article.
