The aim of the paper is to show how experts and politicians regard safety technologies that make use of personal information. Based on 19 interviews, the authors find that such use, even if legal, are considered threatening when the number of registrations makes it impossible to move anonymously, and when the technologies overrule the driver. Respect for privacy includes a reluctant attitude towards large amounts of personal information.
