Improved Travel Planning for Biking and Walking Myhrberg, Stefan

By: Publication details: Bryssel ITS in daily life: 16th world congress and exhibition on intelligent transport systems and services, Stockholm 21-25 September 2009. Paper, 2009Description: 5 sSubject(s): Bibl.nr: VTI P1835:16 [World]Location: Abstract: Travel planning services designed to encourage biking and walking can make an important contribution for environment and health, but also for a better usage of the transport system. Biking and walking put special requirements on route planning services, i.e. weather, bike lanes, stairs, hills, avoiding motorways etc. In most cities, available road databases do not include all information needed for proper planning of routes for biking and walking. This makes it important for City and road administrations to ensure this data is collected and shared. To some extent, this can be made in co-operation with commercial service providers. The new bicycle planner and co-modal travel planner for Stockholm will be demonstrated at the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) World Congress in Stockholm 2009.
