Speed checks which measure the actual speed at specific points are commonly implemented in most countries in the world. In the last years, automatic time-over-distance checks have been introduced in several countries, which are measuring the average speed of a vehicle over a defined section. In Europe, time-over-distance systems already exist in Italy, Austria, Holland as well as in the United Kingdom (UK). In Switzerland, legislation has been adapted lately in order to make an introduction also possible on Swiss roads.
