It is based on the Nordic signal control function called the flexible stage ring. Normally SYVARI works as synchronized with the common cycle time, but during public transport priority SYVARI cancels the synchronization and works like an isolated control mode equipped with priority. The preliminary results of the simulation studies with a three-junction VISSIM model in light and moderate traffic conditions are very positive: SYVARI has decreased public transport signal delays about two-thirds meanwhile the delays of other traffic are increased only a few percents.
