A Step-By-Step Procedure to Introduce Low-Cost Transport Guidance Systems Using ICT at Bus Terminals Sakai, Koichi ; Morii, Norihiro ; Hirasawa, Takayuki ; Kishi, Koji ; Munehiro, Yuji ; Sawabe, Sumihiro

By: Contributor(s): Publication details: Bryssel ITS in daily life: 16th world congress and exhibition on intelligent transport systems and services, Stockholm 21-25 September 2009. Paper, 2009Description: 8 sSubject(s): Bibl.nr: VTI P1835:16 [World]Location: Abstract: Measures to improve guidance at bus terminals for visiting users are examined based on case surveys and a design case study. A step-by-step procedure to enhance transport guidance signs by adopting information-communication technology (ICT) to cope with user needs at low cost in operation is proposed, targeting a sub-urban bus terminal connected to a large railway station operated by a different bus service operator. The structure of a dynamic bus information signboard which locally detects approaching buses with radio frequency identifications (RFIDs) and displays information on arriving buses with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is described.
