Improvement of Probe Car System by Providing Lane-Based Link Travel Time Liu, Bo ; Wang, Wenjia ; Liu, Kai ; Bi, Ying

By: Contributor(s): Publication details: Bryssel ITS in daily life: 16th world congress and exhibition on intelligent transport systems and services, Stockholm 21-25 September 2009. Paper, 2009Description: 7 sSubject(s): Bibl.nr: VTI P1835:16 [World]Location: Abstract: Probe car system provides real-time traffic information, like congestion state. In China and Japan, many probe car systems can provide link-based link travel time. In the field tests carried out in China, the traffic signal effect on link travel time was exposed. Because the turning delay caused by traffic signal is not identical for different turning direction lanes, the traffic signal will have different effects on those lanes. So the link-based link travel time does not always accord with the time experienced by cars on different lanes. This paper proposes a method to replace link-based link travel time with lane-based link travel time as output of probe car system. The lane-based link travel time will differentiate the travel time on different lanes, which is more accordable with driving experience than the conventional link-based link travel time.
