Ecall in-Band Modem for Emergency Data Transmission Over Cellular Networks Werner, Marc ; Pietsch, Christian ; Joetten, Christoph ; Sgraja, Christian ; Frank, Georg ; Granzow, Wolfgang ; Huang, Jeff ; Leung, Nikolai

By: Contributor(s): Publication details: Bryssel ITS in daily life: 16th world congress and exhibition on intelligent transport systems and services, Stockholm 21-25 September 2009. Paper, 2009Description: 8 sSubject(s): Bibl.nr: VTI P1835:16 [World]Location: Abstract: This paper describes the system design and performance of the standardized 3GPP eCall inband modem solution for the transmission of emergency data over cellular networks in the case of a car accident. Since this solution will be employed in life-critical situations, a prompt and reliable transmission of essential accident information, such as location and vehicle identification number, is of utmost importance. The effective transmission channel is characterized by the speech codec and radio impairments, constituting a challenge for the inband transmission of digital data. Several innovative transmission technologies were employed in the eCall in-band modem solution to address this challenge.
