During a period of three years (1st April 2000 - 31st March 2003), the Waterman Thematic Network, also called hereafter “ the project ”, focused on the potential of information services able to support waterborne transport and traffic management activities. This report is the final technical report of the Waterman project. Following the Commission guidelines for reporting (1st Edition, January 2000), the report is composed (in addition to a table of contents and an executive publishable summary) of seven sections as follows : - objectives of the project; - scientific and technical description of the results; - list of deliverables; - comparison of initially planned activities and work actually accomplished; - management and coordination aspects; - results and conclusions; - acknowledgements and references. This report is completed by 10 annexes amongst which Annex 1, under the heading " Waterman Thematic Network Final Technical report summary ", will serve1 as “ a general overview of the problems addressed by the project in its policy context, the project objectives and methodology focusing on results achieved ”.
