Ratings of time saving when raising an original conceived speed to a higher one were obtained for three distances and 18 combination s of velocities. The main results were as follows: (a) The difference between estimates of time saving minus real saving increased with increasing original speed and decreased with increasing distance. (b) The process of arriving at an estimate can be conceived of as consisting of the multiplication of two components, one closely related to distance and the other related to the speeds.
