External influences on salt spray patterns : EPAS2

Subject(s): Online resources: Notes: Separata bilagor Abstract: In the Nordic countries, road salt is used for de-icing the larger and heavily trafficked roads. The salt spreading takes place by a salt spreader with a spreading disc or nozzles for brine (salty water) dispersion and combination of the two. Nordic road authorities wish the speed of salt spreaders on highways should increase from the recommended 50 km/h to 80 km/h, because salt spreaders do not slow down the traffic, and the winter services will become more efficient. However, it is unclear whether there is a maximum speed to ensure no negative effect on traffic safety and loss off salt. The effect of wind speed on the spreading quality is also unclear. The project is divided into two parts. One had aim to defined what influence the speed had one the salt spreading. This part has a practical and empirical approach to the studies. The second part of the project will develop a theoretical method to determine the affect one the spreading quality due to speed, water content and salt quality is self. This part has a theoretical approach to the studies.
