The Management of the Electronic distribution of surface Transport Rules (METR) standard is being developed to standardize how transport agencies can ensure that transport users have trustworthy information regarding “rules of the road”. DATEX2 [DATEX] is a standard to exchange road traffic related information. The standard has evolved in Europe during the last 20 years. Up to now DATEX2 has mainly been used for traffic information (situations, accidents etc) and some static features. Starting from version 3.2 the standard has added the package Traffic Regulation. This study has the emerging standard METR as a starting point. The scope is to look at some essential concepts of METR and reflect on the current situation in Sweden. The vision of METR is to deliver digital traffic rules. To accomplish this, a number of improvements must be made in different areas and levels.
